About Us

For more than two decades, Vanessa James has been passionate about creating unique and meaningful designs. Her journey began while she was a member of the Benson Polytechnic High School Cheerleading Team in Portland, Oregon, where she designed and produced apparel for the squad. Before long, she became known as the go-to person whenever a custom design was needed.

After graduating, Vanessa continued her education at Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design. Upon returning home to Portland, she further expanded her skills by studying Web Design at Portland Community College.

Armed with a strong educational foundation, unwavering faith, and a lifelong passion for creativity, Vanessa was ready to turn her dream into reality. In 2020, she launched Innocent Designs, introducing collections inspired by her personal experiences, values, and perspective.

Each design is intentionally created to spark conversation—to make someone pause and ask, “What does that mean?” The brand blends faith, culture, and thought-provoking messages in a way that encourages dialogue and reflection. Think of it as a meeting point between conviction and conversation: bold enough to address uncomfortable topics while creating space for understanding and connection.

At Innocent Designs, we believe in expressing yourself authentically and unapologetically. Wear these designs boldly. Take up space. Start conversations. Most importantly, be yourself.
